From Science to Stewardship: Model Working Wetlands Program

The 2nd field season of the SOKS Model Working Wetlands (MWW) Education Program ran through Winter 2000 to the Fall 2001. The program involved over 3000 children, parent volunteers, teachers and community leaders. Together with the community and program participants:

• Identifed and counted aquatic microinvertebrates in the field 
• Undertaken water quality monitoring 
• Planted red osierdogwood and willow whips along shoreline 
• Learned how to predicting wetland health and inhansted several wetlands in the Central Okanagan 

During the summer and fall we continued to use our programs for families in the community under the program name “Wetland Warriors”.
